A beautiful George 111 oak chest with twin locks.

A lovely old George 111 oak chest with a compartmentalised top section, lift up lid, and a pull out lower drawer, each with a lock and key.

To the front, there are matching brass escutcheons and a swan neck handle to the drawer, there are also larger swan neck carrying handles to each end. The lid lifts up via two brass hinges, revealing various divided compartments. There are two lift out rectangular boxes/ trays to each side and 3-4 sectional compartments beneath. The chest has been well constructed from good quality oak with dovetail joints.

This is a lovely looking chest with a beautiful oak grain and patination. It would ideally suit a table top position where its beauty could be best appreciated. Apart from being a good looking piece of furniture, it is also extremely functional and could be used for the storage of all manner of different items. The chest was obviously hand built for a specific purpose but unfortunately I have no idea what it was designed to contain. As a few of the photographs suggest, this chest would provide a stylish storage solution for cutlery in a dining room or kitchen.
