NOW SOLD.   A super George 111 military Campaign Writing Slope in solid mahogany. Secret drawers, inkwells, document folder, working lock with key. English, circa 1815

This super looking bi-fold Writing Slope has an attractive mahogany grain, good colour and patination. It has a vacant brass cartouche to the lid (which could be engraved) a brass key escutcheon, and brass reinforcements to guard against damage when travelling.

This box has a bi-fold operation, initially opening to reveal a mahogany surface/work area, and when fully opened, reveals a gold-tooled leather writing surface/skiver in green which is in very good condition.

Interior fittings include, two brass-capped ink bottles, a drop-down leather document pouch, a letter web, pen tray, and a nib or stamp slope. There is also a secret compartment that conceals two small drawers, used in olden times to hide coins or small items of value. Beneath the lift-up writing boards there are two storage areas for small items of stationery, letters, or documents. The box has a functioning lock with a key.
