This splendid Regency Writing Slope has a lovely mahogany grain, good colour, and a pleasing patina. It has a vacant brass cartouche to the lid ( which could be engraved) with a matching key escutcheon and brass edging, all in excellent order.
The box opens to reveal a very attractive gold-tooled leather writing surface/skiver in blue which is in excellent order with no cracks or flaws. Interior fittings include: two brass-capped inkwells, a pen tray, a lidded nib box, and a stamp slope.
Special features.
This box has a side drawer, very useful for storage in addition to the areas beneath the lift up writing boards. It also has a secret compartment that conceals three small drawers, probably used in olden days to hide coins or small items of value. There are two storage areas under the writing boards, one with a simple letter web. The box has a functioning lock with a key.
