A superb Victorian ladies vanity box in rosewood, lower drawer, working lock with key.
NOW SOLD. A magnificent Victorian ladies vanity box in rosewood.
Inside the top section of the the box there are a range of different period glass containers and bottles with a compartmentalised tray including a velvet covered area to hold manicure tools. The tray lifts out of the box via two brass rings at either side revealing a small storage area below.
The lid of the box has a central shield shaped cartouche which doesn’t bare any initials, this matches the key escutcheon, again in mother of pearl. There is an under drawer which is accessed by pressing a secret brass knob located inside the box, the drawer will then spring open and is closed by pressing back against the spring.
The mirror inside the lid is removable via a secret mechanism built into the lid. Once removed it reveals a secret wallet section for the storage of a few private letters or documents.
