A fine quality burr walnut Writing Slope with brass banding and line inlay. The lid of the box has an attractive shield shaped cartouche with a similar design to the key escutcheon.

This beautiful box opens to reveal a mahogany and coromandel veneered fitted interior, and a new green, gold-tooled leather writing surface/skiver, lifting to reveal storage areas beneath.

The top writing board has an internal lock affording extra security for storage of papers and documents, it also secures the three secret drawers beneath.  This is a beautiful box, inside and out, with a beautiful grain, colour and patina.

New antique green, gold-tooled leather writing surface/skiver.

Interior fittings also comprise: a compartmental section for standing stationery, letters, or storage of small items, a pen tray, a stamp slope, and a nib box.

Green baize has been fitted to the base to protect furniture.

Condition

With all old Writing Slopes, there will be a degree of surface scratching and minor imperfections commensurate with age and use. There are some small imperfections with the brass inlay but nothing that detracts from the beauty of the box.
