NOW SOLD. Please email us for new stock. A super antique Campaign Writing Slope in rosewood, two inkwells, secret drawers, working lock with key. Circa 1850
This super looking box has a very attractive rosewood grain, good colour and patination. It has a vacant shield style brass cartouche to the lid ( which could be engraved) and this design is replicated with the brass key escutcheon.
The box opens to reveal an attractive gold-embossed leather writing surface/skiver in a pleasing red/burgundy. This is in excellent condition with no cracks or splits on the fold line. Interior fittings include, two brass-capped ink bottles, two inkwell compartments, a removable pen tray, and a stamp or nib slope. There is also a secret compartment that conceals two small drawers, these were often used in olden days to hide coins and small items of value. Beneath the lift-up writing boards, there is storage space for small items of stationery, documents or letters. The box has a functioning lock and a key is provided.
